I agree with #3 the most, and it's the first time in recent memory I'm concerned about the LBs heading into the season. Carson is extremely reliable (and under-appreciated for that matter) and Hull has the makings of being the next big thing. But how about after that? Some of the younger guys will really need to prove themselves, especially if Hull or Carson are forced to miss time this year. It could be a huge liability. Fortunately, Vandy will have these guys ready to go.

I can see that happening. I did like how Butler said the defense would be simple enough to allow the players to "play really fast." More important than being aggressive, being a "fast" defense is what really shuts down good offenses. Don't let the other team breathe.

Players say the same thing, echoing what the coaches say. Ask the PSU defensive guys, a couple weeks into fall drills, what is different about the 2013 defense, and they'll all say at some point "it's more aggressive."

The main point I wanted to emphasize...again pointing out your blind writing of this article with NO FACTUAL basis, is this, I personally heard Tom O'brien speak to the "Russell Wilson Issue" and O'brien made it clear to Wilson that if you want to play for us "You must participate in Spring Practice, drills, and game in order to be on this team, no matter who you are".......That is the ONLY reason Wilson is not back starting for NC State this fall. He did not ask to leave....in fact, the offensive line he has had is what has enabled his impressive numbers. All of us in NCSU country wish him the best at Wisconsin, but we also like having an honest no nonsense old "Navy Guy" as our coach, who treats everyone the same. We have a 3 year red shirt junior:Mike Glennon(who has been compared to Matt Ryan)to start this year and don't look for any drop off.
Sounds like you are a Penn State fan from the tone of your "article"? Since the ACC is referenced as "a poor ACC" by you, we will let you start your season(hypothetically) with these five contests then check your record. You would be LUCKY to be 2-3..so get real!

I am angry and appalled. You give your time, your heart, your professionalism and turn out one of the best PSU blogs around and what happens? When you leave you get two people to thank you for your efforts. I know we are adults and don't think life is fair but (insert expletive here) this seems exaggerated even for a cynic like myself. I, as a fan of your blog, am flabergasted and hurt.

Congrats on the kid. Send pictures of him in his PSU jamies. While the change is understandable, (we all have a life outside Penn State), from a personal view I am conflicted. We are going from LBU family to SB nation. Family vs country. It's definitely a downgrade. All comments in the blog were answered personally which won't happen with a jillion comments (I also read BSD everyday) every time an article is written on BSD. Anyway good luck and know this, that your ten minutes or less is the Joe Paterno of blog entries. Not in the same league as BSD or any PSU blog that exists today.

Having attended both schools I'm looking forward to this game. I attended UB when they restarted their football program some 30 years ago and, while they're certainly not a powerhouse, they've come a long way since then.

We shall see. Lynn is definitely a stud, but after watching the rest of the guys last season it's hard for me to believe they're the best in the B10. However, I don't think we'll have another year of freak injuries (come on injury gods, cut us a break) so I think that will play a huge part in the success of the secondary.

So hoping that Derrick Thomas works his way onto the field. He's too talented not to play.

On paper, the four probable starters (plus Malcolm Willis) are probably the best GROUP in the conference. Individually, D'Anton Lynn is as good as it gets, while the remaining three are serviceable-to-good.

A healthy Sukay is solid; Stephon Morris COULD be good, if he plays consistently and learns how to f**king tackle. And Drew Astorino will get the start due to the Joe Paterno Seniority Rule, but there aren't many people outside of Joe that would rather see Drew than Malcolm Willis.

Beyond them, there isn't much in the way of a solid secondary; Chaz Powell is like John Travolta from Swordfish - he's changed his identity so many times he doesn't know who he is anymore. He could be good but he's likely been passed by the others. Mike Wallace, SOA, and Adrian Amos are there, but lack any meaningful secondary experience.

And Derrick Thomas...sweet Derrick Thomas. Rumors are that he is walking a fine line between tomfoolery and playing time. If he can get his head on straight, he could be a great addition to the secondary.

If ANYONE believes that it stopped with Tressel, well, I have some swamp land I will sell you. It is about the big Bucks!!! I am an OSU fan also but let's be real! You know Gee and Smith not only knew about it but who do you think talked Tressel into quitting (with a big bonus by the way) and trying to take the blame. We know he was guilty but Smith had to know it. If he didn't then he should be fired for not doing his job of supervising those under him. You know Gee is all about money and he just kept saying get the money any way you can! And they did. I think Gee and Smith both need to go before the program stands a real chance of getting clean.

Considering there's heavy lifting at every stage, he could have had something as minor as a strained muscle or something. I haven't heard anything, but I would bet it's just an injury that isn't worth risking.

...or (just to throw some gas on the bonfire) maybe they don't want to risk any injury whatsoever with Bolden, because they are going to start him.

The SEC running back thing is, well, weird. Dee Hart commits to Michigan, decommits, commits to Alabama, busts his knee, and now will have to come back from an awful injury before he even steps foot on a collegiate football field. However, Alabama has a ton of RB talent, so he can take his time. George on the other hand seems to be shipping RBs out of the university faster than ever. If Isaiah Crowell isn't the next big thing, Richt is going to look like an even bigger idiot.
